The collection begins with the Academic Festival Overture, from which emanates the sounds of jubilation and celebration. The second selection, the Intermezzo in E flat major - Andante moderato (Op.117 No.1). . Pianist Idil Biret gives an excellent performance on this number. This album also includes interesting works from Symphony Nos. 1 and 4, as well as Hungarian Dance Nos. 1 and 5. Lastly, along with pieces from a String Sextet and a Violin Concerto in D major, there is the Cradle Song (Op.49 No.4). This is a beautiful lullaby that I am sure most people have heard before, but did not know it was the work of Brahms.
