This new release from Owe Dierksen is centered around the blue rock thrush, a bird which is common in Eastern Asia. Inspiration is drawn from the trail of ornithologists, Franciscan priests, and the composer Olivier Messiaen. Trombonist and composer Uwe Dierksen performs in a variety of genres, which is partially why this album can’t be pinned down to just one. Elements of pop, rock, and jazz are infused into each of these 15 original compositions. Dierksen has been performing with Ensemble Modern since 1983, an ensemble which specializes in contemporary music. He has had numerous works written for, and premiered by him, and he has almost two dozen recordings to his name.
