Lazar Berman’s complete recordings for Sony are compiled here on this 6-disc set. Especially notable are discs 5 and 6, which are live concert recordings taken at Carnegie Hall. Berman performs works by Rachmaninoff, Brahms, Beethoven, Schubert, Chopin, Liszt, Gershwin, and more with extraordinary virtuosic talent. Lazar Berman (1930-2005) entered his first piano competition at the age of only three, and recorded a self-composed mazurka when he was only seven, before he could read music. His musical career blossomed, eventually teaching some of the twentieth century’s finest pianists, and winning numerous international competitions.
